In fact, it has been said that the oldest age recorded for a cat is 36 years of age!
Aging is a natural and normal life process for humans and animals. The normal aging process will increase the cat's vulnerability to disease and death. Age itself is not an actual disease. Age accounts for the daily wear and tear that make a cat's body become senior or geriatric in appearance and activity level.

The goal of every owner of a senior or geriatric cat is to delay, or at least to minimize, the progressive deterioration of the body organs and to provide the older cat with an improved quality of life for as long as possible.

For cats the need for more comprehensive and frequent physical examinations and diagnostic tests begins around age 7. Each year of a cat's life is equivalent to five to ten years in a human. What is even more important that an illness can develop about seven times faster in a cat. Accordingly, it is important to look for signs of disease more frequently. Appreciating that the greatest percentage of disease occurs, as the senior cat ages, we must point out that the cat should be examined on a more frequent basis.
