| My cats Chip and Dale have been coming to Killarney Cat Hospital
since 1986 for their veterinary needs. Since losing Dale in Jan 2002,
who will always live on in our hearts, I have been taking continuous
care of his sister Chip. In August of 2002 she fell ill, falling from
11 lbs to a mere 6 lbs, barely able to even lift her head. I was not
ready to give up without a fight after losing her brother so recently.
Chip was admitted to critical care and was put on intravenous fluids
and a special diet of Dr. Northworthy's formula. Fearing the worst
because of her condition, she surprised all of us and within seven
days of falling ill Chip was able to return home. She returned to
the clinic bi- weekly for a fluid top up (subcutaneous fluids). Last
month Chip fell ill again and she was put back on IV support and a
special diet. By the third day Chip was beginning to eat on her own
and showed amazing improvement every couple of hours allowing a return
to home after day four. A week after Chip came for a follow-up visit
and showed no signs of being gravely ill - she is playful, cuddly
and as back to normal as a lucky and well loved 18 year old cat can
be. |
